Is that you? What might people see when they look at you?
This week in our sermon series, See the Christmas Light, we continued examining the prologue of John 1, uncovering a powerful truth: we are all witnesses.
The truth is, we are all witnesses to something. Our actions and the way we present ourselves reflect some system of beliefs.
If you call yourself a Christian, you are meant to be a witness to the light of Jesus. We’re all created in God’s image, meaning that we are his image bearers. We were created to reflect who He is to the world around us.
Some of us have lost our way and are living in darkness, which overpowers the light of Jesus and eclipses God’s glory. Instead of reflecting the light of Him and witnessing the truth of Jesus in our lives, maybe our lives look a little like this:
“I’ve got this. I can only rely on myself.“
“I am the greatest of all time.“
“To get ahead in life, you have to overwork yourself.“” “People don’t matter too much.“
“You can only worry about yourself.”
“I am the author of my own story.”
These are our truths, subjective to our own opinions and feelings and those of the people around us, too. It’s not the objective truth that Jesus came into this world to bring light to the darkness and return us to our original intent: to reflect God‘s glory in our lives.
As we approach Christmas Day, we reflect on the season’s true meaning:
What could it look like to be a witness to the truth and light of Jesus in your life this season?
What could it look like to invite other people in to see the Christmas light in this way?
Take a moment to reflect and check out Sunday’s sermon for encouragement. Then, join us on Zoom today from 12:00–12:30 PM for a prayer call as we lift up prayers to shine the light of Christmas and bear witness to the truth of Jesus in the world.
Here’s what we’ll be focusing on:
- 🙏 The Truth: That all would come to know the truth of the Gospel—Jesus came to save and seek the lost. We have access to God the Father through Him.
- 🙏 The Light: That we and others would experience the light and truth of Jesus this Advent season.
- 🙏 Our Witness: That the Lord would give us boldness and grace to share and reflect His truth into the world.
Let’s pray and seek God together—allow the light and joy of Jesus to overwhelm our hearts with praise.
See you soon!
God bless,
Pastor Alvin and Mallary Brown
