It’s time for festive decor, twinkling lights, trees, and more to grace the eaves, roofs, and yards of many wrapped up in the joy of the Christmas season.
Amidst all the excitement and cheer, my heart can’t help but reflect on the beautiful Christmas light displays that shine brightly across countless homes during this holiday season.
Yet, while so many displays glow, twinkle, and blink through the night, I find myself wondering how many of the people living in those homes—and those passing by—are living spiritually blind, lost in darkness, consumed by the world’s artificial light rather than the true guiding light of Jesus.
As we enter this Advent season, we begin a new sermon series, See The Christmas Light—The Prologue of John 1. This series will focus on how the Light of Christ can guide us, unlike the fleeting distractions of the world’s artificial lights.
In today’s prayer call, we’ll focus on John 1:1-5, which reminds us of the importance of light—both physically and spiritually.
Without a guiding light, we often find ourselves lost, repeating the same mistakes, and struggling to break free from the dark patterns of sin and death.
But thanks be to God for His gift in Jesus—the Word, the Life, and the Light—offering us a way out of spiritual darkness and into His guiding light, leading us back to where we truly belong: at home in His heart, in His love.
As we gather together in prayer today, let’s direct our hearts toward celebrating and reflecting on Jesus as the Word, the Life, and the Light by praying for the following:
Gratitude for Jesus’ Sacrifice // Offer thanks for Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, giving us eternal life and reconciliation with God.
Guidance in Life’s Decisions // Pray for wisdom to align daily decisions with God’s will and design, as revealed through Jesus, the Word (logos).
Strength in Darkness // Pray for God’s light, Jesus, to shine in personal struggles with sin, bringing clarity, hope, and victory rather than the bondage of guilt, shame, confusion, or despair.
Discernment in Understanding Scripture // Pray for a deeper hunger and understanding of God’s Word to illuminate our paths and strengthen our faith as we seek to know Him better daily.
Renewal of Life in Christ // Pray to encounter the abundant life (zoé) that Jesus offers—free from sin and filled with God’s purpose—so that we experience the fullness of life that comes only from Him.
Awareness of Artificial “Lights” // Pray for discernment to recognize and turn away from false sources of hope—self-help, idols, or worldly solutions—and focus solely on Jesus as the true light that conquers darkness.
Faith to Shine Light for Others // Pray for courage and grace as the Holy Spirit guides us to reflect Jesus’ light, making us a living testimony of His light where we live, work, and play.
Let’s trust that God will meet us individually and corporately, right where we are. By His love, truth, and grace, He will guide us to see the Christmas light that matters most: Jesus.
I look forward to praying with you and witnessing the Light of Jesus shine brightly in each of our lives. See you soon!
God bless,
Pastor Alvin and Mallary Brown
