Academy 4 offers a platform to connect, engage, and uplift your community, aiming to create positive change and foster hope among fourth graders in underprivileged schools.
Why mentor 4th graders?
Fourth graders possess developed language and cognitive abilities in the transitional phase between childhood and adolescence. They readily absorb information, shape opinions, and value adult guidance. At this juncture, their individuality emerges as they form values and morals. Plus, they’re simply enjoyable company!
What does the mentorship schedule consist of?
Our 90-minute schedule once a month consists of the following each time we meet to mentor:
1:00 – 1:15 Mentors Arrive & Check In
1:15 – 1:30 Mentor Training
1:30 – 1:45 LEADERS Assembly
1:45 – 2:15 Compass Workbook mentoring
2:15 – 2:45 Hang time with the Mentors
Is training needed to mentor?
Yes, training is provided to all mentors. Access the online orientation to delve into Academy 4’s ethos, mentorship essentials, and child safety protocols. Each Academy 4 session starts with concise training on the day’s focus and One Big Thing, accompanied by child safety reminders. Academy 4’s straightforward workbook curriculum has all the necessary supplies, ensuring seamless engagement.
How do I become a mentor?
- Register online as a mentor.
- Undergo school and Academy 4 background checks.
- Complete Child Safety Training and School Orientation with Academy 4.
What if I'm not available on a Friday?
Two allowed absences per school year with substitutes made available as needed. Notify your site coordinator in advance if you’ll be absent.
