Hey there!
Have you ever felt burdened? Like something or someone weighs heavily on your heart?
It’s a common human experience, isn’t it? We all carry burdens, big or small, at one point or another.
Sometimes, it’s the weight of sin, whether our own or someone else’s.
Other times, it’s the heaviness of life’s complex problems—issues like homelessness, politics, human trafficking, immigration, abortion, global warming, and more.
But why do we feel burdened, and what should we do about it?
Being burdened doesn’t necessarily indicate sin, but it should draw us closer to God and one another.
When we drift away from God and the Christian community, our burdens can overwhelm us, leaving us feeling isolated, disoriented, and apathetic about life’s true purpose and meaning.
That’s why Paul urges us in Galatians 6:2 to bear one another’s burdens, especially when sin is involved.
As followers of Jesus, burdened with the mission of making disciples, we’re called and commanded in love to come alongside those struggling with sin, offering support and guidance without being tempted ourselves.
But even when the burden isn’t sin-related, we’re still called to help. While we should always pray for the burdens of another, we must take action.
This could take the form of practical assistance and guidance, a shoulder to lean on or cry on, a listening ear, financial assistance, and so on.
And this weight, these burdens, is what we will see God actually calls us to carry for and with others.
When we carry each other’s burdens, we fulfill Christ’s law of love and sow seeds of service, both physically and spiritually.
Just as Jesus bore the weight of our sins out of love for us, we’re called to bear one another’s burdens in love, showing others the tangible presence of Christ.
As we pray today, let’s ask for restoration for those burdened by sin and for all of us to deepen our connection with Jesus and the Christian community, supporting and taking action to help bear one another’s burdens.
Let’s be the church that carries each other’s burdens, fulfilling the law of Christ and spreading His love to the world.
Take a moment and allow God to bring your burdens and the burdens of another—spiritual, physical, relational, financial, and emotional—to mind and heart. Write them down, and let’s come prepared to believe by the power of the Holy Spirit for these burdens to be lifted and made whole in the name of Jesus.
Looking forward to praying with and seeing you at 12 pm!
God bless,
Pastor Alvin & Mallary Brown
