As we gather for our prayer call from 12 PM to 12:30 PM via Zoom, I want us to reflect on the powerful message from our series, You Have A Part To Play, this past Sunday: People To Be Loved.
Together, we explored the complexities of homelessness, moving beyond labels and statistics to recognize the whole human stories and lives behind them.
Homelessness is a challenging topic, and many questions arise as we consider its impact on our community and beyond:
- Where does homelessness originate, and how does it affect our city and nation?
- What role can we play in this issue, and how might our actions transform our own hearts?
As we navigate these questions in the reality of a broken and sinful world, let’s remember that each individual experiencing homelessness is a person to be loved.
They are not merely statistics but image bearers of God with unique stories—both heartbreaking and beautiful.
In Matthew 25:40, Jesus reminds us, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
Today, let’s center our hearts on God’s love and seek His will as we reflect on the calls from Sunday’s message, praying the following:
A Call Not To…
???? See and treat homelessness as solely physical or spiritual, but recognize it as both.
???? Engage in spiritual practices—giving, praying, fasting—seeking our desires over God’s will.
???? Be spiritual hypocrites, professing righteousness while our hearts stray from God.
???? Forsake our relationship with God and His people.
???? View fasting as self-serving, as the world often does.
A Call For…
???? Social responsibility, actively fighting oppression, and embodying His love through action.
???? Not to ignore our own flesh and blood when confronted with homelessness.
???? Addressing the practical needs of both physical and spiritual homelessness through genuine relationships.
???? Embracing in unison, giving, praying, and fasting to seek God’s intervention to free the oppressed and break every yoke.
A Call To…
???? Rest in the fullness of God through Jesus Christ.
???? Embrace our identity as difference makers in light of who God is.
???? Return home to the heart of God and reconnect with Him and His people.
???? Be repairers of the breach, restoring streets and lives to dwell in God’s intended goodness.
This is His divine invitation to us—to play a part in the vulnerable being loved as people made in the image of Jesus, the One true God, returning home once and for all.
After all, home is where the heart is… and longs to be: with God.
As we return home to God’s heart through Jesus, the Holy Spirit empowers us to invite and guide others to find their way home, too—on our campus, in our community, and beyond.
See you on Zoom at noon!
God bless,
Pastor Alvin & Mallary Brown
