Perhaps you’re wondering, just like Theophilus, who is mentioned in the books of Luke and Acts, as Luke details Jesus’s life and ministry and the Church’s birth and growth.
In reality, we all have our “Theophilus” relationships in life. These individuals and relationships—family, friends, classmates, coworkers, and neighbors— often help shape our faith and guide our journey in Christ Jesus.
So, again, who’s your “Theophilus”?
This question has been at the forefront of our minds as we’ve explored Acts 1 in the wake of Launch Sunday’s sermon, “Be My Witnesses.”
We’ve explored how Jesus instructed His disciples, and by extension, us as believers and followers, to await the gift God the Father promised—the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit’s empowerment is vital for our mission as Mosaic Church Fort Worth. The Holy Spirit enables us to carry out the ministry of making disciples of Jesus where we live, work, play, and beyond.
In the coming weeks, we will encounter individuals like Paul, Barnabas, Timothy, and many others. They, empowered by the Holy Spirit, played pivotal roles as witnesses of Jesus, contributing to the gospel’s spread from Jerusalem to Judea, Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth.
As we gather to pray tonight, we’ll aim our hearts and lives to walk in the footsteps of those early disciples—waiting, praying, and being empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Let us embrace our individual and collective callings as witnesses of Jesus in our daily interactions in the community and on campus to live out our mission:
Mosaic Church exists to make disciples of Jesus through the core values of worship, community, and mission in a multiethnic, multigenerational context.
So, in light of our mission, here’s the challenge for everyone (that’s you too!):
Who’s your ‘Theophilus,’ and who’s ‘Theophilus’ are you?
Join us in prayer at 8 p.m. via Zoom as we seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance and empowerment to answer these questions and faithfully carry out Jesus’ command to be His witnesses in Fort Worth’s communities, on its campuses, and even to the ends of the earth.
God bless,
Pastor Alvin & Mallary Brown
