I thought I had life figured out.
It was 2019. I was living what I thought was “the good life”—marriage, family, a house, a career, and serving at church. I worked hard for it all, so I convinced myself.
But one summer day, in the middle of all the striving, planning, and comparing myself to others, my imprisoned heart felt tired and unsettled.
Something was missing, and my heart knew it. On paper, it looked like I had more than enough.
But no achievement, promotion, vacation, or next purchase could fill the emptiness I felt nor set my heart truly free to live the good life I longed for.
Deep down, there in the prison of my heart, I knew there was a silent whisper from a familiar voice that spoke of only one thing that could bring the good life from a dream to reality.
Colossians 1 says it plainly: “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” Paul wrote those words from prison to people he’d never met, but he wanted them to know what had set his own heart free—Jesus is King.
Nothing and no one else can give us the freedom and peace of life our hearts truly long for.
When we believe in the supremacy of Jesus, the foundation of our lives and our reason to live shifts.
We stop chasing identity in success, relationships, or possessions. We stop letting culture pull us in every direction, leaving our hearts worn thin and broken until we can no longer feel.
Instead, we anchor in the One who holds the universe together, and holds us together, too.
Maybe tonight, it’s time to grow up and let go of something you’ve been holding too tightly.
Maybe it’s worrying about the future, a relationship, an unmet desire, or the pressure to prove yourself.
Paul reminds us that maturity in Christ isn’t about “surviving” or “arriving.” It’s a daily walk of surrender, letting Him reshape our priorities and restore our hope to thrive and live as He intends for us to live this life truly.
Join us tonight from 7–7:30 pm on Zoom as we pray for Christ’s supremacy to be real in our hearts, where we live, work, and play.
- Thank God for redeeming us and holding all creation together in every season.
- Praise Jesus as King over every part of our lives.
- Fully surrender our desires, fears, and priorities to His will and supremacy.
- That our identity is shaped not by the world’s view of success, relationships, or possessions, but by who Christ is and how He sees us.
- For the Holy Spirit to grow us in spiritual maturity and strengthen us with endurance as we learn not only to believe in Jesus, but to follow Him.
- For family, friends, and neighbors by name who are far from God to encounter His truth and love.
Whether we realize it or not, Jesus is enough. He’s more than enough, and all we need. He’s not far off and distant, but near and at the center.
And when He comes first, all people, places, and things find their proper place. In His supremacy alone, all is well and at peace.
A life lived well. The actual good life, fully aligned with His heart and will.
God Bless,
Pastor Alvin & Mallary Brown
