If Jesus Is Alive, Why Am I Still Afraid?

If Jesus really is alive and reigns over everything, why does my heart still tremble?

You know that moment when you sense God calling you to something, but your chest tightens anyway. That nervous feeling settles in your stomach even though you know what’s right.

Maybe it’s a conversation you’ve been putting off. A decision that feels faithful but costly. A step forward that feels deeper than you’re ready for.

We’ve all been there. We believe what’s true, yet following through feels hard. And even then, our hearts still pound.

The disciples knew that feeling too.

Jesus had risen from the dead. The tomb was empty. They had heard the news. And yet, they were hiding behind locked doors, afraid they might be next.

When Jesus showed up, John writes in John 20 that He didn’t walk in frustration or disappointment. He didn’t shame their fear. He stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

He steadied them before He sent them. He gave them Himself before He gave them a mission.

And that’s the part we often forget.

Jesus isn’t sending us out to prove we’re brave or strong enough. He’s inviting us into something already unfolding. The Father sent the Son in love, and now the Son sends us in that same love.

Not to do more, but to rest in His love, allowing that same love to reach others the way it reached us.

So this week, right now, let’s slow down and pause as Jesus did when He prayed. Let’s receive the peace Jesus is still speaking over every fear we carry.

Let’s remember the Spirit He has already given us. Not to do more, but to remain centered in His love, so that His love can reach farther through our lives, just as it once reached us.

Join us for our weekly prayer call as we bring our fears honestly before the Father and lean into the peace Jesus offers. Together, we’ll pray to be:

  • Sent with His pleasure and joy, rather than driven by anxiety or performance.
  • Sent with His purpose and clarity, rather than chasing what the world calls success.
  • Sent with His people, embracing the communal heart of His mission, instead of going it alone.
  • Sent with His presence, so Jesus is made known, not ourselves.

As we live on mission where we live, work, and play, may we never forget this truth: the Son sends us in the same way the Father sent Him, already going before us.

We don’t have to live in fear when we are invited to live by His Spirit and in His power.

See you at 7 pm!

Blessings,
