A Relationship, Not a Transaction.

As we reflect on the past and move forward, we celebrate God’s faithfulness in establishing Mosaic Church Fort Worth one year ago.

As we pass this milestone and continue to grow in understanding what it means to live out Sunday’s message, A Praying Church, which was inspired by the four foundational pillars of every Christian church in Acts 2:42—apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer—it’s important to ask ourselves:

Where does prayer truly rank in our personal lives?

A recent survey revealed that while pastors prioritized evangelism and preaching, prayer ranked last at only 3%.

Would prayer be at the center if we took a similar survey regarding our personal relationships with God

Or has prayer, like many relationships, been pushed to the background—overshadowed by other spiritual disciplines such as Bible study, serving, church activities, or even the demands of our everyday responsibilities?

Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:9-10 of the critical relational nature of prayer:

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

This isn’t a transactional list of requests to fulfill our self-centered desires that leave us relationally bankrupt, but an intimate, communal, and life-giving dialogue with Our Father—one that begins with surrender and leads to the manifestation of God’s Kingdom and will, bringing heaven to earth most truly and profoundly.

As we aim our hearts to relate to Our Father in prayer today, let’s together reflect on a few questions:

  • Is prayer central in your relationship with God, or does it feel more transactional?

  • How does the Lord’s Prayer challenge you to surrender your will to God’s?

  • In what ways do the current political climate and global events pull your heart away from or draw it closer to the lordship of Jesus?

In addition, in light of last night’s presidential debate and today marking the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, it’s timely for us to consider the division we see in the world being far from God’s Kingdom.

So, how do we maintain our focus on God’s Kingdom despite all the earthly dissonance?

The answer lies in relational prayer, where we surrender to Jesus’s Lordship, inviting God, Our Father, to be the ruler who shapes and realigns our hearts with His perfect will.

So, let’s invite Our Father in as we, His sons and daughters, pray the following together as one family:

🙏 For all hearts to be aligned with God’s will, both personally and collectively.

🙏 For God’s Kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven—especially in our communities, on campus, and in our nation.

🙏 All leaders, regardless of political affiliation, seek wisdom and guidance from the Lord Jesus.

🙏 For unity and healing as we remember the tragedy of 9/11, asking God to use His people to bring peace and hope.

🙏 Our church would continue to be a beacon of Christ’s love and truth, committed to prayer, and empowered by the Holy Spirit to fulfill His mission.

Ultimately, we hope that we, like Jesus, embrace the call to “not my will, but Yours be done.”

Let’s commit ourselves to being a praying church—a praying people who know the power of surrender, seek God’s will above all, and boldly step into the miracles of His Kingdom coming to earth.

We look forward to praying these truths with you to Our Father in heaven. See you on Zoom at noon!

God bless,
Pastor Alvin & Mallary Brown
