Yesterday, we took our daughter to dance class.
While my wife chatted inside with another mom, I sat outside with our boys, soaking in the brief Texas spring—enjoy it while it lasts!
What struck me wasn’t the tantrum—it was her. Calm. Present. Unshaken. She held him close until his little heart’s storm passed, her love speaking louder than his boisterous cries.
In light of Sunday’s message, The Ministry of Presence, it reminded me: Presence is powerful.
In Matthew 9, Jesus walked through towns, teaching, healing, and truly seeing people—tired, worn out, spiritually lost. And He didn’t turn away. He moved toward them with compassion.
Then He sent His followers (that’s us!)—not to fix everything, but to be present and point people to the hope only He provides.
Maybe you’ve been wondering if your presence really matters—at home, at work, in your neighborhood, church, or any other space you frequent.
Let me encourage you—YES! It absolutely does. More than you know.
Jesus invites us to be present with Him. To live with open eyes and open hearts. To go where people are. To see them like He does. To pray like it matters and to show up and participate like it does, too.
This is the ministry of presence—not flashy or loud, but quietly, consistently powerful.
It’s the mother consoling the child. It’s a teacher who listens. A neighbor who brings over dinner. A student who notices when someone’s sitting alone. Family or a friend who sends a “you okay?” text that arrives at just the right moment.
Our presence may not make headlines—but it can change lives now and into eternity.
So, as we pray like Jesus told us to—asking the Lord of the harvest to send workers—let’s focus our hearts on three things:
🙏 That God would send us—into classrooms, workplaces, homes, recreational spaces, neighborhoods, cities, and to the nations.
🙏 That He’d open our eyes and hearts to see with compassion like Jesus did.
🙏 That we’d have the courage to pray and participate—ask God for help, and Him to use us to raise up others who go boldly and care deeply.
Let’s not underestimate the power of praying and participating—showing up to love and serve as Jesus did. Why? Well, because…
Our lives. Our days. Our decisions matter. And you matter more than you know to Jesus, His kingdom, and us, too. We’re so grateful for you.
See you at noon!
God Bless,
Pastor Alvin and Mallary Brown
