What does “family” truly mean?
This week, we turn to Psalm 128, which offers a beautiful vision of God’s heart for family.
As we reflect on this psalm, we discover that family is more than just a biological connection—it’s a source of blessing, belonging, and purpose that spans generations.
Psalm 128 invites us to see that family isn’t just about our earthly ties, but about finding our place in God’s bigger story and sharing that blessing with others.
Whether biological or spiritual, family is where we experience God’s love, His ways, and His presence as we wrestle with some deep, challenging questions:
- Whose blessing are we seeking in life?
- Is our life evidenced by blessing or curse?
- Are we children of God’s family and walking in His ways, or are we orphans of the world lost in our own way?
- Are we receiving and sharing Jesus’ blessing of belonging to others, just as He has done for us?
Regardless of where we are in life—whether married, single, or navigating different seasons—we each have a role in being a family of faith that reflects God’s love, belonging, and blessing.
And one of the many ways we do this is through prayer. As we pray through Psalm 128, let’s believe God will lead us in His blessing of belonging, guiding us in these ways:
🙏 Pray for our families—both biological and spiritual—that they would experience the blessing of belonging and become a source of blessing to others and future generations.
🙏 Pray for unity in the body of Christ, that His family would be a place of welcome and love, where all can honor Him and walk in His ways.
🙏 Pray for those who feel disconnected from family, that they may experience God’s love and the support of the faith community.
🙏 Pray for our church leaders, that they would serve with wisdom, humility, and a heart for unity in God’s family.
🙏 Pray for those struggling with loneliness or isolation, that they would find their true blessing of belonging in Christ.
May we all walk in God’s ways, embracing our place of belonging in His family and experiencing the fullness of His blessing.
When we do, His peace will prosper not only in our lives but on the campus and in our communities, and beyond, just as God’s heart has always been for us—from the very beginning.
So, we pray that God’s blessing will flow through us, bringing His love, belonging, and blessing to all where we live, work, and play.
God Bless,
