Why do I worry?
Why do I worry?
Why do I worry?
God knows what I need
So I’ll give thanks to God
When I don’t have enough
Cause He’s more than enough
And He knows what I need
As I listened and reflected upon these piercing lyrics of “I’ll Give Thanks” by the Housefires, featuring Davy Flowers, my heart was deeply moved by the contemplative questions of:
What would it look like to have everything you need? Would you have the job you’ve always wanted, the people in your life you’ve always longed for, the money in your pocket you’ve always desired?
This past Sunday, we finished Week 3 of our Next Steps Course, God’s Provision. And it answered the question: What would it look like to have everything you need? I believe this is the essence of God’s provision for us.
In Psalm 23:1, David says “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” or maybe your version says, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” (my personal preference)
When I used to hear the word ‘provision,’ all I could wrap my mind around was the concept of provision in the area of finances. However, through life’s circumstances in the past nine years of walking with God, I’ve realized that God’s provision is about so much more.
I believe God provides financially, emotionally, spiritually, relationally, and more. He is resourceful—every resource belongs to Him, and He makes everything He has available to those who love Him.
What we think we need may not always be what He provides, but in Him, we truly lack no good thing. He has given us Christians even Himself, through the person of Jesus and in the presence of the Holy Spirit. And He is all we need.
So, what would it really look like to have everything you need? How, with God, can you lack nothing in such a broken and dark world?
Some hope to make ends meet, some hope for friendships or love, some hope for satisfaction and fulfillment—what would it look like for them to have everything they needed?
We understand that their fundamental need is spiritual. Without God, we’re ensnared in endless struggles to obtain what we think we lack. But with God, we find freedom, purpose, and all else we need.
Join us for our prayer call today from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. via Zoom. We will pray for God to meet the deep spiritual needs of our community and campuses as he cares for their other needs.
Praying from Psalm 23:1, let’s pray, as Jesus taught us, for God’s kingdom to come and His will to be done, on earth as it is in Heaven in these areas of provision:
- Spiritual Provision: God to meet the deep spiritual needs of those in our community and on campuses by guiding us to intersect with those needing fulfillment that only He can provide.
- Financial Provision: God’s common grace to ensure timely assistance, especially for those seeking jobs, in debt, facing financial instability, needing housing or food, and affected by poverty.
- Relational Provision: God to provide and strengthen meaningful, healthy, and life-giving friendships, family relationships, and marriages.
- Trust: God to provide our every need as we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and trust that all these things will be added to us (Matthew 6:33).
- Hope: For those longing to feel that they lack nothing, to experience God’s provision made perfect through the hope of Jesus.
Together, let’s cry out to God and seek Him as He brings us out into a place of rich fulfillment (Psalm 66:12), His provision made perfect, lacking nothing, as He always intended.
May you, may we, lack nothing… See you at 12 pm!
God bless,
Bria Lacour
