Hi everyone!
We’re encouraged to connect with everyone tonight at 8 pm to continue in our time of corporate prayer and praise as we seek God on behalf of the greater Fort Worth metroplex.
Last week we specifically aimed our hearts to pray the words of Psalm 80:18-19 that the Lord God Almighty breathes spiritual revival across the communities, campuses, and the city of Fort Worth.
As we invest time together tonight, we’ll pray for the Gospel for Jesus as found in Isaiah 53:4-6 to bring healing to the communities and campuses of Fort Worth.
“4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
When people are sick with a common cold or diagnosed with an extreme or terminal illness, it’s quoted.
In fact, verse 5 from Isaiah 53 is very popular, and commonly quoted and proclaimed in prayer and song, and on clothing and a wide range of decor.
But what if I shared with you that this verse and accompanying verses had more to do with spiritual healing rooted in the suffering of Jesus and not simply physical healing alone?
These verses (and the entire passage) sum up the Gospel story. It’s a story of our desperate need for saving and a savior.
A story of our sin and sinful nature, and the abyss of brokenness that Christ himself bore on the cross in our place as an act of redemptive love.
It was not simply to be healed from physical and mental pain, anguish, grief, and sorrows of this life, but that believers and followers of Christ would be spiritually healed and made whole in the right relationship, a new covenant relationship with God.
So as we pray tonight, let us prepare our hearts and bring our heart’s cry to not only pray for physical healing for Fort Worth, but let’s pray that our city, our citizens, and our communities and campuses are spiritually healed and delivered from principalities, powers, and realms of darkness.
